Takapoto Estate Bannockburn Single Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir 2016

NZ$79.99

Planted on historic 19th century goldmines and overlooking the breath-taking Felton Road. These hand-picked grapes are subject to hands-off winemaking, undergoing wild fermentation to capture the terroir of this remarkable vineyard site. Matured in French oak, this wine delivers a full body and complex structure. It is silky smooth on the palate with flavours of black cherry, plum and complimentary savoury notes to give it a lingering finish. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. The 2012 vintage of this wine took out the World’s best Pinot Noir Trophy at the prestigious London International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in 2017.

An excellent bouquet with a core of ripe primary red fruits, bottle development reveals some secondary characters with a touch of leather and mushroom then vanilla and baking spices of barrel-ageing. Dry on the palate with flavours of cherry and aged plum, dried cherry and some toasty barrel spice qualities. Tannins and acidity form the backbone of this wine with fruits macerating in between. A lovely wine in a ready to drink state. Best from 2023 through 2027+. 93 Points. Excellent - Cam Douglas MS
