The Takapoto Classic Summer Competition: Mark Your Calendar!

The Takapoto Classic is the highlight of the showjumping calendar at Takapoto Estate, and it's an event that riders and horses prepare for year-round. This year, in 2024, the competition is scheduled to take place between the 13th and 18th of February, catering to various showjumping levels. You can check the schedule on our event landing page for details on class types, timings, obstacle heights, and more.

Showjumping 101: It's All About Keeping Those Rails Up!

Showjumping is an exhilarating sport, and you don't need to be an expert to enjoy it. The main objective is simple: the winner is the one who navigates the course, keeping those rails up in the shortest time possible. If you're interested in more detailed rules, you can find them here.

Getting There: A Journey Worth Taking

Takapoto Estate is conveniently located on Findlay Road, Maungatautari, just 20 minutes from Cambridge. Once you turn onto Finlay Road, follow the signs to the Takapoto Estate entrance on your left (at the bottom of the hill). Note that horse trucks and floats will use the next entrance along.

Weekday Spectating: Free Admission from 13th to 16th February

Weekdays during the Takapoto Classic are open for free admission. Come anytime from 8am to witness a variety of showjumping classes in the Defender, APL, and Trinity Hill arenas. Grab a pocket guide at the gate to stay informed about the day's events. It's the perfect opportunity to relax, meet friends or family, and explore the extravagant and world-class environment at Takapoto Estate.

Refreshments, Trade Village, and Parking Galore!

Refreshments are scattered around Takapoto Estate, offering coffee, cocktails, wine, beer, and cafe cabinet food. A trade village awaits exploration, and parking is stress-free with ample space available.

Weekend Competition: 17th - 18th February

As the weekend approaches, don't miss the intensified thrill of the tour finals and the Grand Prix Final on Sunday. Admission is $25 per person per day, and kids under 12 enter for free.

Picnic Vibes:

Enjoy the grassy area to spectate the Defender Grass Arena. Feel free to bring a picnic and blanket, but remember these areas are licensed, so beverages are available from our fantastic bars—no BYO allowed.

Dogs:

Although we love our fluffy friends, unfortunately, no dogs are allowed at the venue for everyone's safety.

Vodafone Coverage:

Keep in mind that Vodafone currently has limited coverage at Takapoto Estate, so plan accordingly.

Additional Hospitality Tickets:

A variety of additional hospitality options area available to enhance your experience at the Takapoto Classic. Grand Prix options for Sunday may be sold out, but there are still several fantastic options available if you’re looking for something extra special, or hosting clients, family or friends. Be sure to check out the Anne Symes High Tea, the Farm to Table Dining Experience for foodies (which takes place in the evening after the showjumping), or the GH Mumm Cocktail Party for the party-goers!
