Cam Douglas
Complex and developed with a bottle age and good vintage pedigree captured in the bouquet. Aromas and flavours of earth and brown spices, layers of cherry and plum then wood smoke and stony earth qualities. There’s a seam of dried herb that reflect Gibbston and the region overall. Fine tannins integrating well and plenty of acidity. A wine that is ready with best drinking from day of purchase through 2027+.

This Gibbston Pinot Noir is elegantly expressed on a silky mouthfeel, with developed fruit and fragrance, along with delicate spice and and gentle savoury details, underlined by Gibbston hallmark lively acidity and a linear finish.

From one of the oldest vineyards in Gibbston, Central Otago. A dark purple colour in the glass. The perfume has a complex blend of floral – lilac and rose petal; red fruits – plum, cherry and cranberry; plus herbs and spices. The spine is provided by an interplay of plump tannin, spicy oak and fresh acidity. Well-balanced and with a youthful bounce through the palate. The flesh of the ripe fruit meets a savoury, herbal layer of thyme, olive and lavender. Softening towards the finish, there is a creamy texture and good persistence.

Wine Orbit
It's seductive and enticing on the nose with aromas of dark berry, bouquet garni, dried mushroom, and toasted almond. It's concentrated and finely textured in the mouth, offering excellent focus and drive, backed by beautifully pitched tannins that make it complex and harmonious, with a sustained, engaging finish. At its best: now to 2031.

Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer & Author

The best of this new bunch of Pinot Noirs from Takapoto Estate is, undoubtedly, the Gibbston Valley. This wine is made entirely from grapes grown in the Gibbston sub-region, which seems to be benefiting from climate change - if this full bodied, flavoursome wine is anything to go by. Its appealing dark cherry aromas are an invitation to enjoy a wine with a fabulous fresh framework of ripe fruit around an earthy core of gently spicy complexity. It was made with hand picked, 100% destemmed grapes grown on Brennan Vineyard and fermented with wild yeasts. The finished wine was matured in French oak. This wine drinks well now and can age further - for four to five years, potentially longer.
