Award winning genetics
The Takapoto Angus herd was established in 2011 with the purchase of top Te Mania stud heifers, which was further added to in 2012 with females from Te Mania, Kakahu and Mt Linton studs. From this base the herd now numbers 100 registered females and 40 Performance Recorded females, with a goal of stabilising at 200 registered females.
The focus of the Takapoto breeding program is multi-trait selection with an emphasis on conformation, soundness, exceptional carcase quality, high growth rates and fertility, however we also place equal emphasis on temperament, calving ease and low birth weights. This enables our clients to excel in both stud and commercial operations.
By selling only yearling bulls we specialise in bulls suited to heifer mating in both the beef and dairy industries.
The Takapoto Bull breeding program achieved significant recognition in 2015 by winning the “Supreme Brand Champion” in the 'Steak of Origin', New Zealand’s Premiere Beef Carcass Competition. We further consolidated that success by again taking out the prestigous award in 2016.
Our overarching goal is to continue building the quality of the cow herd and in order for us to make rapid genetic gains we implement advanced AI and Embryo Transplant technology, utilising top genetics from New Zealand, Australia and USA.
